Evidence Storage, Calgary Police Services
Calgary is one of the fastest growing cities in Canada and is home to over a million residents. With the growth in residents, the Calgary Police Service (CPS) saw a growth in evidence as well. The CPS rented a warehouse to hold the evidence but overtime, the associated costs started to become a significant expense.
The CPS leadership decided it was time to start looking for a more appropriate and cost-effective long-term solution for evidence storage. They decided that a vacant lot adjacent to police headquarters would provide the ideal opportunity to create a centralized, purpose-built facility for property and evidence storage.
The group brought in HBI early in the design process to help assess their storage needs and think about future considerations. HBI also advised the architect on load-bearing concerns, the size of the system, floor rail placement, and other considerations.
The CPS now owns an efficient, high bay storage facility that improves organization and ensures a secure chain of custody. With the state-of-the-art storage solution from HBI, the storage systems took up less space then originally anticipated. The CPS was then able to design and build a smaller building. This resulted in cost savings for construction and future operational costs.
